How You Can Help

Spring is jumping, we have had over 5 inches of rain in the last week, and the sun has come out and I feel as though I can see and hear the grass growing. Our first batch of chickens are growing bigger every day, and they will be ready to process in just over a week. May is a time of anticipation, when the grass is growing, and not quite ready, the chickens are bigger every day, and not quite ready…It is a time when we invest in the coming season and we need your help.

Here’s how you can help: place an order and put some of our food in your freezer.

May is a lean time of year as we put so much of our energy and financial resources into getting the season going, and we rely on you, our customers, to support our business by making a purchase. Maybe it has been a while, maybe you have never made a purchase, or maybe you are a longtime loyal customer. Please consider stocking up on our 100% Grass Fed Beef or our Pasture Raised Pork, fed Organic Grain. I’ve just updated our Pork and Beef boxes to reflect extra savings for the month of May.

What does a lean month look like?

I think of our friends who grow vegetables, they have spent months planning and seeding, preparing and planting. Even as the landscape seems to burst with spring green, seemingly overnight, there is little we glean from the garden. Our fridge contains just the first few green things of the season thanks to our first delivery from our Tangleroot Farm Spring CSA Share (sign up here!): a bag of spinach, some micro greens, chives and some watercress from the stream by our house.

On our farm the story is similar. Within a few weeks we will have pastures full of chickens, pigs and cattle, and bins full of organic grain. Just like those straight rows of transplants we admire in our neighboring vegetable fields, we invest in our animals and our land before we fill the freezer.

First we invest in our infrastructure: chick brooders, field shelters, and processing equipment. Then we invest in the batch of chicks, and fill the bins with Organic Grain so we can feed all those little hungry beaks. Lastly we invest in our labor to accomplish stress free (from the chickens’ perspective) processing right here on the farm. Finally we are then able to put the chicken in the freezer.

Spring is an investment. We invest in our future and food with time, money and passion.

You can invest too; consider placing an order today.

  1. Great post
Such a lovely read! It’s great to hear about your farm and how you’re investing in the coming season. I appreciate the reminder to support local businesses and farmers, especially during lean months.
