Syrup Shipping

Almost all weather has its pros and cons. I love a brisk fall day. The leaves have all settled to the ground and now been blown into the hedgerows and the over-full parking lots of peak leaf season remind me of the swing of tourism. I have a new hole in my jacket pocket where I keep my gloves, and I’m sure it won’t be long before the morning gloves are lost with the discarded afternoon layers.

With the warm afternoons have come freezing nights. Which means all the convenient ways we rely on to move water around the farm no longer work. So I’ve had to readjust my evening routine to include a quick romp with the dog and some water jugs to make sure the last batch of chickens have enough water for the evening. Then again in the morning to last until the water lines thaw.

I for one appreciate the change. Without cold, warm is meaningless. Perhaps without not-doing, achieving is meaningless? I have had a few full days of physical work in the last few weeks. Hauling chicken water, sorting cattle and moving some hay bales for the pigs has brought new perspective to what I am now capable of doing. But what is even more difficult is remembering to not-do. It is difficult in the face of the culture of constant movement and doing around running your own business and especially farm business. Why do we call it “running” your own business? Without running, standing still is meaningless?

One of my doings this week was to create an easy way to order just syrup shipped to your door. Because our website is centered around the purchase and delivery of our frozen meats, syrup has been sort of an add on item. In sifting through the inter-workings of our e-commerce platform I think I’ve come up with a simple way to solve a few key problems.

• Problem: I want a quart of syrup shipped to my door, but the order minimum of $75 does not let me order just 1 quart of syrup.
  • For folks who want to place an order for our maple syrup, without ordering frozen meat, there is now a separate “pickup location” called Nationwide Syrup Shipping. Don’t be fooled by the name pickup location, this is just a work-around that allows you to order for nationwide shipping, separate from frozen meat.
    • Select this location and you now have no order minimum and free shipping for orders over $50.
    • This option is available nationwide and even internationally if you want to send a gift over seas. (Extra shipping costs will be applied for international shipments)
• Problem: I love your syrup and want to send a few gifts to some friends, but your website does not allow me to make multiple purchases at a time, it just updates my cart.
  • If you want to purchase some gifts for friends and family we now have a simple google form you can fill out to send multiple gifts in one order cycle. Click here to see the form, a link is also in the syrup home page. Fill out the form and you will receive order confirmation emails for each gift order you place as well as tracking information when the order ships.
